PROGRAM POLICIES FOR FAMILIES
with Children enrolled in Religious Education 2011-2012

The safety of your children is always our prime concern. The Archdiocese requires that these directives be followed by staff and volunteer catechists. Our goal is to offer the most effective process of faith sharing in an atmosphere of security.

Attendance/Absence Report Regular attendance is expected. If a child is ill, a parent is asked to call the RE Office 310-377-4573 before class time.

Tardiness If your child is late, he/she must go to the Religious Education Office, Room 107, to pick up a tardy slip.

Early Dismissal If there is an extraordinary reason for a child to leave class early, a parent must send a written note to the Religious Education Office, Room 107 before class begins on the day of request, or come to the office in person to request an early dismissal pass. Children will be given an early dismissal pass to give to the catechist. A parent or designated adult should go to the child's class to pick up the child.

Dismissal Procedure
SUNDAY CLASSES:
9-10:15 am classes: (Preschool, Kindergarten, and one Grade 1 class) Parents should come to their children's classrooms to pick them up in person. Preschool and Kindergarten children MUST be signed out in Barrett Hall.
10:30-11:45 am classes: (All grades) When the end of class bell rings, children will be dismissed from the classroom and directed to go to the designated safe pickup area. (Basketball court adjacent to the school courtyard.) Children will be supervised as they wait to be picked up. If you choose to pick up your child in person at the classroom, please arrive before the end of class. Any child not picked up ten minutes after dismissal will go to the R.E. Office.

WEEKDAY CLASSES (Tuesday/Wednesday, 4-5:15 pm)
When the end of class bell rings, children will be dismissed from the classroom and directed to go to the designated safe pickup area. (Stairs outside Barrett Hall.) If you choose to pick up your child in person at the classroom, please arrive before the end of class. Any child not picked up ten minutes after dismissal will go to the R.E. Office.

Earthquake/Fire In the event of an emergency, students will be released from parish grounds only to authorized persons listed on the Disaster Preparedness Form completed at the time of registration. In the unlikely event of an evacuation of the St. John Fisher facility, students will be moved to an evacuation center as directed by emergency personnel. Staff members or volunteer catechists will remain with the students until they have been reunited with their families.

Parental Involvement Every parent is asked to help in some way to enhance and enrich the Parish Religious Education Program.

Student Behavior Full cooperation of all the students during RE classes is expected. Parents will be notified immediately of any discipline problems.

Guests in Class Guests are always welcome to attend with children, as long as they are willing to cooperate with the catechist and with the goals of the program. For the safety of our visitors, if a Religious Education student wishes to bring a guest to class, the student's parent must register the guest in the Office before class begins. Parents are always welcome to visit during Religious Education class time.

Parents, you are entrusting your children to us. We take this responsibility very seriously. Cooperation between home and the Religious Education Program is essential. If any issues or problems arise that you feel need to be addressed by the staff, please do not hesitate to contact Margaret Johnson, 310-377-4573, ext. 136 or mjohnson@sjf.org. Every child is special to us, to God, and to the Church.
