Program Policies and Registration For Families with Children Enrolled in Religious Education 2008-2009

Instructions for Registration

AAll families with children who were registered in Religious Education in 2007-2008 should have received re-registration forms. To register a new student for Religious Education, stop by the Religious Education Office in room 107 to pick up the forms you need. If you prefer, call (310) 377-4573 to have the forms mailed to you. Classes start the week of September 28, but children are welcome to join any time of the year. No child will be placed in a class until registration forms have been received. Due to insurance requirements, children may not attend classes until they have been officially placed on a class roster.

Fees, September through May, 2008-2009:

  • Preschool, Elementary, and Jr. High:
    • One Child: $125.00
    • Two children: $250.00
    • Three or more children: $300.00
  • Out of Parish Tuition: $300.00
  • REPA Donation:$25.00

IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT YOUR FEES: Religious Education Fees do NOT cover all the expenses of the Religious Education program. The total cost per child is about $350 per child per year. All families are expected to contribute financially to St. John Fisher Parish. For this reason, we must charge additional fees for families that are not registered in the parish.

Program Policies

The safety of your children is our prime concern. Please read and review these procedures and discuss them with the children. The Archdiocese requires that these directives be followed by staff and volunteer catechists. Our goal is to offer the most effective process of faith sharing in an atmosphere of security.

Attendance/Absence Report

  • All students are to arrive on time for class.
  • Regular attendance is necessary.
  • If a child is ill, parents are asked to call the Religious Education Office (310) 377-4573 before class time.

Tardiness

If your child is late, he/she must go to the Religious Education Office, Room 107, to pick up a tardy slip.

Early Dismissal

If there is an extraordinary reason for a child to leave class early, a parent must send a written note to the Religious Education Office, Room 107 before class begins on the day of request, or come to the office in person to request an early dismissal pass. Children will be given an early dismissal pass to give to the catechist. A parent or designated adult should go to the child's class to pick up the child.

Dismissal

Dismissal times for classes held at St. John Fisher are:

  • Sundays: 10:15 am for Preschool and Grade 1 classes that begin at 9 am.
  • Sundays: 11:45 am for all other classes.
  • Weekdays: 5:15 pm.

For children in grade 1 and grade 2, parents or authorized persons should go to the classroom promptly at dismissal to assume responsibility for their child.

Older children will be dismissed from the classroom and directed to go to a safe pickup area near the parking lot outside the Music Room. If an emergency arises and you are unable to pick up on time, please notify the R.E. Office. Any child not picked up ten minutes after dismissal will go to the R.E. Office. The R.E. Staff will remain with the child until a parent or authorized adult arrives.

Earthquake

Students will be released from parish grounds only to authorized persons listed on Disaster Preparedness Form filled out at time of registration.

Parental Involvement

Every parent is asked to help in some way to enhance and enrich the Parish Religious Education Program. Volunteer forms were sent with re-registration forms in May. For information on how you can help out, please call the office.

Student Behavior

Full cooperation is expected of all the students on the parish grounds and in the classrooms. Parents will be notified immediately of any discipline problems that arise. An agreed-upon appropriate action will be decided by parent and staff coordinator.

Guests in Class

Bringing friends to class is allowed. If a child wishes to bring a guest, the parent must register the guest in the Office before class begins. Parents are always welcome to visit during Religious Education class time.

Parents, you are entrusting your children to us. We take this responsibility very seriously. Cooperation between home and the Religious Education Program is essential. If any issues or problems arise that you feel need to be addressed by the staff, please do not hesitate to contact Eileen Loughran, 310.377.4573, x136 or eloughran@sjf.org. Every child is special to us, to God, and to the Church.
